FCRP Associate Program

Helping to Bring Research Results to Industry/Government

The FCRP Associate Program is a cooperative partnership that brings together university researchers, graduate students and industry/government experts to create profound impacts.  Associates are their organization’s main link to these important research programs within a Theme and facilitate their organizations engagement with the FCRP.  It is recognized that FCRP research is driven by outstanding university PIs under the direction of the academic Center Director, and FCRP Associates do not direct the research.

Developing the Workforce

Associates can make themselves available to the university research team, often providing inspiration to graduate students preparing to enter the semiconductor industry. Associates can often contribute to PIs in helping students achieve academic excellence by sharing their industrial experience and ideas. Often these relationships lead to internships or summer hires, and Associates frequently co-author papers or serve on students' thesis advisory or final exam committees.

Contributing to the Research Efforts

Encouraging dialogue and technology exchange between the university research team and industry/government is an important role of the FCRP Associate. The Associate’s expertise and feedback often help shape research results, bridging the gap between academia and industry. Through this cooperation, research is use-inspired - and results are more rapid and relevant.

Transferring the Technology

The Associate Program enables FCRP sponsors to better stay in touch with the research efforts within a chosen Theme and to extract more value for their organization.  Once a researcher from an FCRP sponsor requests to become an Associate, a relationship is created that identifies the research sponsor to the Theme Leader and associated Task Leaders as someone who has technical expertise in that research area and has strong interest in the work of that Theme.  The Associate will act as a receptor for that sponsor, facilitating technology transfer.  Associates are ideally positioned to ensure that exciting new research is actually applied within their industry or government organization in a timely manner.
