Developing the Workforce
Industry Liaisons serve as mentors, providing guidance and inspiration to graduate students preparing to enter the semiconductor industry. Liaisons help students achieve academic excellence through real-life exposure to industry practices. Often the mentoring relationships lead to internships or summer hires, and Liaisons frequently serve on students' thesis advisory or final exam committees.
Aligning the Research
Encouraging dialogue and technology exchange between the university and industry communities is a major role of the Industry Liaisons. Their expertise, equipment and feedback, as well as guidance and material help during all research phases, bridge the conventional gap between academia and industry. Through this cooperation, research is use-inspired - and results are more rapid and relevant.
Transferring the Technology
Not only do Liaisons partner directly with students and universities during research phases, they work with GRC and member companies to deliver newly acquired knowledge to industry sponsors in an expedient, cost-effective way. Liaisons are ideally positioned to ensure that exciting new research is actually applied within the industry in a timely manner.
At any time, over 800 GRC Industry Liaisons guide more than 700 research tasks. This major industry commitment enables the best technical people to guide, shape and support SRC's research efforts and its graduate students. Not only does the program help develop future technology leaders and innovators, it is uniquely structured to allow the Liaison's company to gain valuable insight into the solutions that will ultimately impact industry competitiveness.
