The strategic emphasis of ICSS is to focus on design-based performance gains in analog and digital designs to overcome traditional barriers and challenge conventional notions of the design space.
Research Focus
In the circuit design space, the emphasis is on advances for robust high-performance low-power digital logic and memory, analog, RF, and mixed-signal designs, with an enhanced activity in the new TxAce Center.

In the integrated system design space, the emphasis is on advances that enable robust and power efficient designs for both high performance and embedded systems comprised of silicon and software for diverse applications.
Integrated Systems Design addresses research topics in six key areas:
- Early Design Space Exploration for System Level Synthesis and Optimization
- System Level Implementation
- Design Robustness
- System Power Optimization
- Communications Centric Design of SoC/SiP: Energy Efficient Communications

The ICSS SACC works with the Science Area Director to develop the annual Strategic and Operations Plans, solicit and evaluate university research proposals based on needs documents developed by member task forces, conduct periodic reviews of sponsored university research, and sponsor technical reviews and transfer courses for members and university participants.
Technical Advisory Boards
The representatives on the Circuit Design and Integrated Systems Design TABs assist in solicitations and evaluating work in these areas.
