SRC 2020 Young Faculty Award

This award recognizes untenured, full-time researchers that showed distinction in SRC funded research by both the novelty of the research and the execution of the technical agenda. The 2020 Young Faculty Award is presented to Matthew Johnston, Oregon State University.

Matthew Johnston is Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University where he joined in Fall 2014. He received his PhD from Columbia University in 2012, as a SRC student. He has been the PI on multiple projects in I3T and PKG

  • 3D-printed stretchable PCBs combining sensors, antennas, and passive components using liquid metal
  • Mixing 3D-printing and MEMS fabrication his research advances System-in-Package (SiP) and Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP)

His pioneering research aims to enrich SRC by developing at the intersections of multiple boundaries: ICs and Packaging, sensor specific and application-specific IC design, and emerging applications in smart sensor nodes
He is also a Program Manager of a new SRC initiative for Undergraduate research Program (URP) that provides industry mentorship and research experience in critical thinking, collaboration and presentation skills for undergraduates.
