SRC 2021 Young Faculty Award

This award recognizes untenured, full-time researchers that showed distinction in SRC funded research by both the novelty of the research and the execution of the technical agenda. The 2021 Young Faculty Award is presented to Judy Cha, Yale University.

Dr. Judy Cha is recognized leader in topological nanomaterials. She have been developing precision synthesis of topological nanostructures and careful characterization of their transport properties over the last decade. Topological nanostructures from her group have enabled my industrial collaborators to measure novel electronic states only found in nanostructures.

As part of SRC nCORE IMPACT center (Task 2966.005), her group was the first to recognize and demonstrate that topological metal Molybdenum Phosphide (MoP) could outperform effective Copper (Cu) interconnects with a barrier layer and barrier-less Ruthenium (Ru) interconnects at the nanoscale. Additionally, she showed that the resistance of MoP nanowires left in air for 6 hours does not change, suggesting MoP may not need a barrier layer normally required for 20 nm-thick Cu film.
