Biography: Jossy Sayir

Jossy Sayir

Jossy Sayir received his engineering diploma (Dipl El Ing ETHZ) and doctorate (Dr Sc Techn) from ETH Zurich in 1991 and 1999, respectively. From 1991 until 1993, he worked for Motorola Communications developing a digital mobile radio system. From 2000 until 2009, he was with the Telecommunications Research Centre (ftw.) in Vienna, Austria. He joined the University of Cambridge, UK in 2009 initially as an EC funded Marie Curie Fellow and currently as an Affiliated Lecturer at the Department of Engineering. Since 2015, he also works at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) on a project to store data on DNA. He is a Fellow of Robinson College and a Senior Member and Director of Studies at Newnham College. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a General Co-Chair of the IEEE Information Theory Workshop taking place in Cambridge, UK this coming September.
