Call for White Papers in Circuit Design

The Semiconductor Research Corporation periodically reviews its research portfolio to assure a balance of university research to meet the needs of SRC member companies. The Integrated Circuits and Systems Science area of SRC anticipates being able to add to this work a number of research tasks in Circuit Design, beginning in early 2003. Member needs in this area are outlined in the ICSS Research Needs Document on the SRC web site. Interested researchers should note the proposal and review schedule below. Following submission of a 1-page white paper in the specified format by July 26, 2002, SRC member company reviewers will select a group from which full, university-approved proposals will be requested by September 20, 2002. Proposers will be asked to disclose and address any background intellectual property that must be licensed separately to practice the research. Proposals for funding will be selected from these submissions, with contract starts anticipated January 1, 2003.

White papers should address research with a 3-10 year time horizon, and outline a three-year program. Topics of particular interest (Identifiers refer to the corresponding section of the Research Needs Document) are as follows:

• C1.2: Digital Low Power and/or Low Voltage Circuit Design
• C2.1: Mixed Signal Circuits on Advanced Technologies
• C2.4: Mixed Signal Low Power and/or Low Voltage Circuit Design
• C1.1: Digital Circuits on Advanced Technologies
• C2.3: Mixed Signal Design for Test
• C2.2: Mixed Signal Noise immune and/or tolerant circuits

For this Call, only white papers addressing needs enumerated in the Circuit Design section of the Research Needs Document will be considered, with preference given to those addressing the six topics listed above. Although these are the priority needs, we are always willing to consider novel proposals in related areas of research. It is estimated that between 5 and 10 contracts, supporting 1-2 students each, will be supported.
