MediaTek Joins Other Semiconductor Titans in the SRC Research Consortium
MediaTek joins eight of the top 10 semiconductor companies as members of SRC
Durham, NC – June 28, 2021 –Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), a leading global semiconductor research consortium, today announced the addition of communications semiconductor giant MediaTek Inc. as its newest member. MediaTek joins eight of the top 10 semiconductor companies as members of the SRC Research Consortium, signaling a consistent trend of industry leaders partnering to invest in research that defines the future technology of the semiconductor industry.
MediaTek has been a rising star on the global stage in recent years, growing revenue by 35% in 2020 to secure its place among the top 10 largest semiconductor companies last quarter, as reported by IC Insights. Membership in the SRC Research Consortium will enable MediaTek to amplify their research portfolio through partnerships and programs that drive collaboration, innovation, and strategic investment. Consortium members accelerate their strategic research agendas through a vast network of creative resources in academia, plug into a pipeline of graduate students entering industry’s workforce, and gain key insights into next-generation technologies that are shaping the future. MediaTek is also actively participating in advanced research and innovation through the Task Force on American Innovation (TFAI) and through the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
"We are thrilled to welcome MediaTek as our newest SRC member," said Todd Younkin, President and CEO of Semiconductor Research Corporation. "They are the world leader in smartphone chipset sales and are helping to usher in the next era of computing and communications with their Dimensity 5G chipset family. MediaTek’s participation in the consortium will expand the breadth and depth of SRC’s collaborative research programs, driving innovation and opportunity."
Researchers at MediaTek began working directly with SRC through the SRC Decadal Plan Committee. The recently released report from this committee, the Decadal Plan for Semiconductors, outlines research priorities for semiconductor and information and communications technologies (ICT) over the next ten years. Developed by leaders across academia, government, and industry, the report identifies five seismic shifts that require research to create critical solutions needed for economic growth and national security. The diverse membership of the SRC Research Consortium bolsters these efforts by driving collaboration across entities to uncover technology solutions that can meet the needs of future generations.
The SRC Research Consortium has grown rapidly with a roster of recent member additions that includes domestic and international industry giants AMD, Samsung, TSMC, and SK hynix. Semiconductor leaders such as Intel, Texas Instruments, IBM, Micron, NXP, and Qualcomm have been long-standing members. This growing membership helps SRC serve the semiconductor industry by providing a wider and more extensive innovation pipeline to define future technologies and create a workforce with the talent and training to continue unparalleled growth in the industry.
Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC.org), a world-renowned, high technology-based consortium serves as a crossroads of collaboration between technology companies, academia, government agencies, and SRC’s highly regarded engineers and scientists. Through its interdisciplinary research programs, SRC plays an indispensable role in addressing global challenges, using research and development strategies, and advanced tools and technologies. Members of SRC work synergistically together, gain access to research results, fundamental IP, and highly experienced students to compete in the global marketplace and build the workforce of tomorrow.
