1983

SRC’s initial research agenda is set as the research program goes operational. The ground-breaking Industry Mentor Program is launched.

Highlights

  • In the first half of SRC’s first full year of operation, forty additional research contracts are awarded to twenty-six universities. In three of these contracts, 37 proposals form the basis of three major research programs (at MIT, RPI and MCNC). In all, from the 166 proposals submitted in response to SRC’s first RFP, 80 are funded in some form.
  • SRC welcomes twelve new members, for a total membership of 24.
  • The SRC budget nearly doubles to $11.5 million.
  • Technical workshops are held on III-V Digital Research Strategy, Deposition Processes, Multilevel Simulation, and Advanced Packaging Strategies.
  • SRC initiates its Industry Mentor Program (later renamed to: Industry Liaison Program).
