SRC continues to lead by looking ahead, identifying roadblocks with our industry and government partners and funding university researchers to make the new discoveries that advance the state‐of‐the‐art.

Highlights

SRC names Ken Hansen, former Freescale Chief Technology Officer, as new President and CEO. Ken succeeds SRC’s Larry Sumney who retires after leading the semiconductor university-research consortium for more than 30 years.
SRC partnered with SIA to create a report, “Rebooting the IT Revolution”, that describes a research agenda that can transform the industry.
Each of NRI's multi-university research centers, CNFD, INDEX and SWAN, co-funded with the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), took important steps toward the demonstration of new devices for computing. In beautifully conceived and executed experiments, INDEX researchers verified theoretical models for quantum tunneling of charge carriers across junctions n-type and p-type regions of graphene. SWAN researchers experimentally verified theoretical models for tunneling between layers of n-type and p-type transition metal dichalcogenides. CNFD Researchers demonstrated the ability to reliably switch the magnetization of a thin metal film simply by applying a voltage. Each of these results is a necessary step toward a particular device concept pursued by each center.
SRC welcomed new members Analog Devices, Inc., Microsoft, and ARM who are embracing the research challenges through their participation.
2235 students were active during 2015 in SRC’s Student Programs, generating a critical workforce to drive the semiconductor sector. In September, SRC hosted over 200 students representing 65 universities at the 17th annual TECHCON conference.
In 2015 SRC managed a total of 405 contracts, grants and agreements with 112 different universities and research organizations worldwide.
