TECHCON 2010 Preview

TECHCON is the primary event where SRC presents the best of research sponsored by the membership and showcases the students who perform the research. It is also the venue for recognizing industry and university participants who make SRC a world-class research management organization. TECHCON 2010 will include research presentations from GRC, FCRP, and NRI in integrated sessions. Primary elements of TECHCON 2010 are outlined below. Come join us in September for a spectacular event!

144 Technical Papers

TECHCON 2010 provides a cross-disciplinary snapshot of the state-of-the-art in silicon-based research. Technical papers selected for TECHCON represent a compact summary of the best research in SRC's portfolio across all the research entities. Choose from among 16 judged paper sessions and 4 poster sessions organized around technical areas of particular interest to the SRC membership. Use the presentations to identify novel technical options relevant to your company and match graduate students to your full-time and intern hiring needs.

Posters from Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO) Students

A new addition to TECHCON is the presentation of about 30 posters from student participating in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities program. This program is in place on 14 university campuses with the objective of attracting a diverse population of qualified students and tracking them to graduate school. A poster section will be available in TechFair throughout TECHCON 2010.

TechFair

TechFair is a series of poster sessions and the best place to talk to the top graduate students in semiconductor-related fields. 150 posters will be displayed with students available for discussion in the TechFair exhibit session immediately following their paper presentations. A new attraction this year is a section of posters from students participating in the Undergraduate Research Assistants Program.

Outstanding Speakers

The keynote speaker for TECHCON 2010 is Dr. Michael Mayberry, Intel VP, Technology and Manufacturing Group and member of the SRC Board of Directors. A future web article will include an abstract of Dr. Mayberry's presentation. The New Frontiers Session is planned for Monday afternoon. Speakers include Professor Rob Rutenbar, FCRP researcher at the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign, and Dr. Charles Holland, DARPA Deputy Director . Watch the web for abstracts for this session.

CareerConnections

SRC member companies will be operating booths on Tuesday afternoon targeting graduate student researchers attending TECHCON 2010. CareerConnections will be followed by an informal buffet dinner for all Conference attendees.

Technical Excellence Award

The Technical Excellence Award is an incentive and recognition program for research of exceptional value to the SRC community. The award is shared among key contributors to technology that significantly enhances the productivity/competitiveness of the North American semiconductor industry. Come to Monday's Conference Banquet to find out which research team will take home the $5,000 cash prize.

Mahboob Khan Mentor Awards

The Mahboob Khan Outstanding Mentor Awards are lifetime awards recognizing individuals who, in serving as GRC Industrial Liaisons, have had significant impact on the technical contributions of the research, have been instrumental in transferring the research results to industry, and are deeply committed to the education of the graduate students. The awards will be presented at the Conference Banquet on Monday evening.

Aristotle Award

The Aristotle Award was created by the SRC Board of Directors to recognize outstanding teaching in its broadest sense, emphasizing student advising and teaching during the research project. Criteria for receiving the Aristotle Award include innovation in student advising, provision of learning experiences for students through the research project, creation of an environment that encourages development of leadership skills, and student exposure to and interaction with industry. The Aristotle Award will be presented at the Conference Banquet on Monday evening.

Inventor Recognition Awards

SRC recognizes those researchers whose efforts lead to patentable inventions in all three research entities - GRC, FCRP, and NRI. One means of rewarding the efforts of university researchers is through the Inventor Recognition Award, which was established by the SRC Board of Directors in September 1986. The Inventor Recognition Award currently consists of a $500 award conferred on each GRC-, FCRP-, or NRI-supported investigator, up to a maximum of $1,500 per invention, when a new U.S. Patent application is filed for research results emanating from a GRC, FCRP, or NRI research contract. Principal investigators, task leaders, researchers, and graduate students conducting sponsored research are eligible. The Inventor Recognition Award winners will be recognized at the Conference Banquet on Monday evening.

Fellows and Scholars

The GRC Fellows and Scholars and the NRI Fellow are among the most promising students in US universities. They exemplify those qualities of dedication, intellectual curiosity, technical ability, motivation, and creativity that are required for productive university scientific and technical research. These young men and women bring significant talent, knowledge, professional interest and enthusiasm to the SRC research community. The Fellows and Scholars will be recognized at the Conference Banquet on Monday evening.
