IOT Gateways for Consumer and Enterprise Applications: Challenges and Platform Solutions

This presentation is focused on defining Intelligent Gateways for the next generation of the Internet of Things (IOT) infrastructure. The Intelligent gateway is a mission critical component for smart homes and businesses. It provides connectivity to sensors, actuators and control devices spanning multiple protocols, as well as connectivity to the Cloud for big data services and analytics. Utilizing the compute capabilities provided by a heterogeneous combination of CPU and GPU processing units, an Intelligent Gateway can provide a power efficient solution for conversion and pre-processing of the raw IoT endpoint data to high level processing and interaction with external databases in the cloud. Applications for intensive graphics and biometric data processing will be examined as well as a need for integration of multi-protocol networking, embedded control, enterprise grade security, and applications integration in a proposed future proof platform.
