2012 Simon Karecki Award Presented to Jeffrey Rottman

The 2012 Simon Karecki Award was presented to Jeffrey Rottman at the GRC/SEMATECH Engineering Research Center (ERC) for Environmentally Benign Semiconductor Manufacturing Review in Tucson, Arizona.    This is the eleventh presentation of the SRC Education Alliance Simon Karecki Award. This Award is given in memory of Dr. Simon Karecki who was a student in this Center and an SRC Fellow.  Friends and colleagues of Simon have come together to create the Simon Karecki Fellowship Fund in memory of an outstanding individual and researcher to encourage other talented young researchers in the pursuit of environmental research.

Jeffrey is pursuing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Arizona under the direction of Professor Farhang Shadman.  Jeffrey’s research has been primarily focused on “Fate of CMP Nanoparticles in Municipal Wastewater Treatment Systems” and “Behavior of Nanoparticles in Porous Media.”  Jeffrey has published, presented and participated in TECHCON 2010 and 2011, GRC/SEMATECH Annual Review, SESHA Journal, 2010 AICHE Annual Meeting and has presented his work at numerous environmental and semiconductor conferences.

One of the criteria for receiving the Simon Karecki Award is academic excellence. Jeffrey has achieved excellent grades in his graduate level work with a 3.8 GPA at the University of Arizona and a magna cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University where he was the recipient of many scholar awards. He is the recipient of the Arizona Science Foundation Fellowship and Semiconductor Research Corporation Global Research Collaboration Graduate Fellowship.

Jeffrey is bright, engaging and personable. He has demonstrated his commitment to community by volunteering with the Tucson Refugee Ministry and working in developing countries building homes for disadvantaged families. Jeffrey will complete his doctoral studies in May 2012.
